IP Cameras

Australia's complete range of IP cameras for residential, commercial, and industrial sites — high-resolution network cameras from the world's leading security brands, with PoE power, ONVIF compatibility, and full Australian warranty support. Every IP camera we stock connects over standard Cat6 cabling to a matched NVR for plug-and-play installation.

PoE, ONVIF & NVR compatibility

All IP cameras we sell use Power over Ethernet (PoE) — a single Cat6 cable carries both data and power from the recorder, removing the need for a separate power supply at each camera. Cameras conform to the open ONVIF standard (Profile S for live streaming, Profile T for advanced features), so they work with any ONVIF-compatible NVR or video management system. For best results — including AI detection, two-way audio, and proprietary analytics — pair the camera with an NVR from the same brand (e.g. Hikvision cameras with a Hikvision NVR).

IP camera form factors

  • Turret cameras — the most popular outdoor IP camera form factor. Compact, vandal-resistant, with built-in IR for clean night images.
  • Dome cameras — discreet ceiling-mount for indoor retail, offices, and reception areas; IK10 outdoor variants available.
  • Bullet cameras — long-range outdoor surveillance with extended IR; a visible deterrent design.
  • PTZ cameras — motorised pan / tilt / zoom for active monitoring of large outdoor areas and carparks.
  • Panoramic / multi-sensor — 180° or 360° coverage from a single IP camera, perfect for retail or open warehouse aisles.

Resolution: 2MP to 12MP / 4K

IP cameras support far higher resolutions than analogue. 2MP (1080p) covers general monitoring; 4MP is the residential sweet spot for face and number-plate ID; 6MP adds detail for larger areas; 4K (8MP) and 12MP suit wide outdoor sites or high-zoom playback.

AI detection

Modern IP cameras include on-camera AI that dramatically reduces false alerts. The leading brand features are:

  • Hikvision AcuSense — human / vehicle classification, sub-second motion analysis, strobe and audio deterrent on detection.
  • Hikvision ColorVu — full-colour night vision via F1.0 aperture and ambient-light sensor.
  • Dahua WizSense — human / vehicle / non-motor classification with SMD Plus filtering.
  • Axis ARTPEC analytics — line crossing, intrusion, loitering, traffic counting (enterprise tier).

Frequently asked questions

What is an IP camera?

An IP camera (Internet Protocol camera) is a digital surveillance camera that transmits video over a standard network (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) rather than the coaxial cable used by older analogue cameras. IP cameras send compressed digital video to an NVR (Network Video Recorder) or directly to a cloud service, supporting much higher resolutions and richer features than analogue equivalents.

Do IP cameras need an NVR?

Most IP cameras require an NVR or video management system to record continuously and to be viewed remotely without a computer. Some cameras have an SD-card slot for short-term local recording, but for multi-camera installations an NVR is standard — it powers the cameras over PoE, records the streams, and exposes them through a phone app.

What is PoE and do I need a PoE switch?

PoE (Power over Ethernet) lets a single Cat6 network cable carry both the camera's video signal and its electrical power, removing the need for a separate power adapter at each camera location. Most modern NVRs have built-in PoE ports, so you only need a separate PoE switch if your recorder has no PoE ports or you're expanding beyond the recorder's port count.

Are IP cameras compatible with ONVIF NVRs?

Yes — every IP camera we stock supports the ONVIF Profile S (live streaming) and Profile T (advanced) standards, meaning they will work with any ONVIF-compliant NVR regardless of brand. For best results — including motion analytics, audio, and proprietary AI features — we recommend pairing cameras with an NVR from the same brand.

How much does an IP camera cost in Australia?

Entry-level 2MP IP cameras start around $129 AUD. The most popular mid-tier (4MP, AI detection, colour night vision) sits between $249 and $499. Enterprise IP cameras from Axis, IDIS, and top Hikvision/Dahua Pro series range from $499 to $2,500+. See our CCTV camera prices guide for a full breakdown.
